We're All In: Join Cobalt As We Go Big at Black Hat, BSides, & DEF CON

As August approaches, the energy in the cybersecurity world invariably shifts to one vibrant, buzzing city: Las Vegas! This year, I’m thrilled about our presence at three of the industry’s most anticipated events: Black Hat USA, BSides Las Vegas, and DEF CON 33.

I am truly excited to be back in Vegas and looking forward to seeing timely, insightful briefings, along with cutting-edge research from the industry’s most trusted practitioners. These events offer a great opportunity to forge new connections with attendees and speakers, and to engage in meaningful exchanges about the future of the threat landscape and strategies for mitigating new and emerging threats.

Cybersecurity may be a global field, but it’s a tight-knit community. Big conferences like these bring together people from all over the world, and they present a unique opportunity for me to reconnect with those I’ve shared the frontlines with in the past. It’s always a pleasure to catch up - to hear about new roles, lessons learned, and how their family is doing. But most importantly, just have fun reminiscing and enjoying each other’s company. For most of us who have been in the industry for a very long time, the social aspect of these events is as important as the new knowledge we gain from them.

I’ve been fortunate to speak at these conferences in the past, and one thing that always sticks out to me is the curiosity and enthusiasm of the younger security professionals. They ask smart questions about emerging technologies and threats, and they’re eager for guidance on how to grow in their careers. Encouraging and supporting them is one of the best ways we can prepare the next generation for the challenges ahead. Whether it’s through technical briefings, hallway conversations, or shared experiences navigating new forms of attack, these events continue to strengthen our community and push the industry forward.

It's incredibly fitting that these events are held in Las Vegas, a city that truly never sleeps. It's a powerful analogy for what we do in cybersecurity: while others rest, we remain awake, alert, and aware, ready to confront the challenges of both impending or active attacks.

These conferences are more than just events; they're vital opportunities for us to learn, share, and grow together as a community dedicated to building a more secure digital future.
